Case Study

Prakash Singh

Prakash Singh is a bright and hardworking student studying in St.xavier technical institute in Mahim. His academic journey hasn’t been smooth; he might have dropped his education and his father’s dream unfulfilled, as other economically backward children in India do

Prakash stays with his mother and brother in a congested slum area of Ray road-Mumbai. It was Prakash’s father’s dream that he studies further and becomes an engineer. After his father’s untimely demise his dreams shattered. And financially it was a big blow to the family as he was the only earning member who brought home some income with which the family managed. Prakash’s struggle started thereafter. The economic burden fell on him and his brother now. Thus he along with his brother started taking tuitions at home to support the family. His economic situation and increased responsibility at home made it difficult for him to concentrate on his studies.

At this critical moment in Prakash’s life came Hari Sankar Foundation’s Udaan education project which aims at supporting the underprivileged families with the education of their children and by supporting talented youth in becoming engineering par excellence. Hari Sankar foundation promised Prakash’s family to bear his tuition fees of all the years till he achieves his father’s dream of becoming an Engineer.

Pranali

It’s always said that if you Dream to become something the whole universe conspires to make you achieve your dream. So is the story of Pranali who stays in a crowded slum area of chembur, Mumbai.

Pranali has a dream of becoming a computer engineer. She is a bright student. But,her dream came to a halt when she lost her mother suddenly due to some illness which shook off her emotionally. She started getting back her confidence in studies and she lost her father due to accident in the year 2012. This was a final blow to the family. The financial condition of the family was crippling. Now, all the burden to take care of Pranali and her siblings came on her paternal aunt (bua) and uncle(chacha). Their income wasn’t sufficient to support the education of all the children which included Pranali’s elder sister and two younger brothers.

Pranali scored an excellent 86% in her S.S.C. examinations. But it was still difficult for her to climb the ladder to achieve her dream. At this point Hari Sankar foundation was informed about Pranali and her dream of becoming a computer engineer. They supported her by paying her tuition fees of the engineering college. This was a dream come true moment for Pranali and her relatives. Her Uncle and Aunt expressed their happiness and said that they can now at least divert their money into other children’s education.

Pranali is now happily studying in Swami Vivekanand college of Engineering in Chembur.
